Welcome to Quark Community

Quark is an open source software used mainly as a digital currency that employs multiple cryptographic algorithms, which unlike fiat/national currencies provides the platform for a decentralised monetary system.

Quark was launched in 2013 with the belief that the control of money should not be in the hands of the few, but in the hands of the many. This forum tries to build on that ideology by distributing Quarks in the hands of those that are active in the community. By posting quality articles and contributing to general discussions you will earn Quarks.

  1. Important!

    Quark protocol has been changed to a POW/POS hybrid. The hard fork will take effect starting with block 4937000 ~ 25 November 2017. By that time make sure you run at least version 0.10.6.1

Solo mining non stop since January

Discussion in 'Mining' started by Kickrox, Sep 9, 2014.

    Had three machines going at it but I shut down the dual-core rig last month, just wasn't doing much at all.

    Two rigs are still going strong though.

    Is there a limit on the amount of blocks I can submit?

    I'm using MinerD - does that matter?

    Thanks.

    EDIT: Read in another thread about there not being a limit.. my question still stands though since I'm talking months of mining xD

    yep but would only reward the blocks found after the promotion was announced, also only paying solo miners, if you mined in a pool you don't qualify for the promotion. Sorry :oops:
  3. Kickrox

    Kickrox Quarker

    Never mined in a pool.

    When did the promotion start?

    Let me give you an example of what I have:

    you mine with minerd and the blocks show up in Quark right ? Any performances gains instead of using the normal wallet mining ? If yes would you mind making a tutorial in the Resources teaching others how to do it ?

    You can post any quark blocks you found after august 20.

    I benched in the beginning of the year but I lost those notes. I do remember getting a performance increase, not sure sure if that would be the case today.

    Had to refresh my memory on a lot of this but here's my "tutorial" for Windowz - please keep in mind that there might be better/easier ways of doing this.

    ====================================
    1. Get the latest Quarkcoin wallet: http://www.qrk.cc/

    2. Install the downloaded file and open the wallet - it'll start synchronizing with the network.

    3. Get a version Cpuminer (minerd) that supports Quarkcoin: http://www.quarkcoins.com/mining-quarkcoin.html - this site is a great resource.

    Scroll down to STEP 6 to see the links. I downloaded the 64 bit version.
    Downloaded file will be in zip format.

    4. You can extract this anywhere you feel comfortable with. Just remember that you'll need to remember its path for a batch file we'll be creating a little later.

    Now we'll need to create a couple of files.

    QUARK WALLET CONFIG:

    By default Quark wallet installs in: C:\Users\YOURUSER\AppData\Roaming\Quarkcoin

    5. Go to this directory and create a text file - name it "quarkcoin.conf" (no quotes). Also make sure to have "Hide extensions for know file types" unchecked in Folder Options or else you might end up with a plain text document instead of a config file. Organize -> Folder and Search Options -> View tab -> uncheck "Hide extensions for know file types" .

    upload_2014-9-11_14-1-36.png

    6. In this file you'll want to add a few lines. This is what I have in mine (use your own username/password if you'd like).

    listen=1
    maxconnections=80
    gen=0
    genproclimit=-1
    server=1
    rpcuser=miner
    rpcpassword=miner321
    rpcport=9999
    server=1
    daemon=1

    upload_2014-9-11_14-2-19.png

    7. Close and restart Quark wallet so it will recognize the changes.

    CPUMINER CONFIG:

    On to Cpuminer.

    You can open a command prompt and manually type the command in when ever you need to start/restart or you can create a batch file, type in what you need once, and just double-click it if you ever need to start/restart.

    Myself, I created a batch file :D

    8. Right-click on your desktop and create a new text document, name it what ever you like but it'll need to have .cmd as the extension (this doesn't have to be on the desktop).

    I named mine: minerd.cmd

    9. Right-click the new file and choose edit. Lets type in our command and parameters, remember to include the path where your software is installed (cpuminer in this case).

    For me it's: "C:\Program Files\quark-v2_w64\minerd64_sse4.exe" -a quark --url localhost:9999 -u miner -p miner321

    upload_2014-9-11_14-0-27.png

    As you can see here, you'll need to make sure that your Cpuminer parameters reflect a few of your Quark wallet config entries.

    *A little side note here.. you don't have to extract Cpuminer into your Program Files folder like I did. Extract it into the root of the drive if you prefer, e.g. "C:\quark-v2_w64\". You'll have to make the appropriate adjustments to your batch file, e.g. "C:\quark-v2_w64\minerd64_sse4.exe" -a quark --url localhost:9999 -u miner -p miner321*

    10. Save and close the new file.

    Time to mine!

    Open your Quark wallet and let it sync. Once it's done (this process might take quite some time) you can use the batch file you created on your desktop (minerd.cmd) by double clicking it. If everything is setup properly then you should see this:

    upload_2014-9-11_14-3-50.png

    Keep in mind that performance is better on the dedicated machines. This was setup in a virtual machine.

    ============================

    Mako, if you (or anyone else) needs me to start a new thread for this or make any adjustments, lmk.

    I'll be posting my blocks soon :)

    Thanks.

    Good post. The first steps are already in the Resources and wallets on qrk.cc haven't been updated in a while so its better to use the latest wallet from Resources->wallets, some quarkers reported improved mining capabilities. The Cpuminer could be made into a nice tutorial, if you have time to edit it and post it there, if not I will do it myself some other times if you are ok with it. Thanks!

    I'll be updating my machines this weekend, if everything works properly, I'll be more than happy to update and move the post. Don't want to provide instructions without testing first :)

    Quick question before I post all my blocks. I have 212 confirmed blocks since 8/20.. ok to post them all?

    I don't want to be inconsiderate.

    I used a crude method of counting the blocks (MS Word), it was more of an approximate number.

    Either way, give or take a few isn't a problem at all.. the promotion is very much appreciated. I wasn't expecting anything for mining.

    Thanks a bunch.
